On Materials
We make candles meant to be burned — in your home, around the people you love, filling rooms where you live your life. That responsibility shapes every decision we make about what goes into them.
The Wax
A premium coconut-apricot blend, sourced from Aztec Wholesale in Knoxville. It burns cleaner than petroleum-based paraffin, produces minimal soot, and carries fragrance exceptionally well. The coconut and apricot oils are sustainably sourced, and the wax is biodegradable. It doesn't release the chemicals associated with paraffin combustion — the compounds that can trigger headaches, respiratory irritation, and allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
The Fragrance
Every fragrance in the line is a custom blend, developed in-house. Each candle starts with a foundation oil and is built outward — supporting elements added in measured ratios, tested across multiple iterations, refined through extended burn evaluation. The blends are ours. They exist because we built them.
Every component oil is manufactured without phthalates, parabens, organ toxins, carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins, or any ingredient on California's Proposition 65 list. Suppliers maintain IFRA (International Fragrance Association) compliance and provide full formulation transparency. The standards apply equally to our Bespoke Partnership scents developed with fragrance houses — no exceptions, regardless of supplier.
The Wicks
Flat-braided organic cotton, lead-free and zinc-free. The braid curls slightly during burning, drawing the tip into the hottest part of the flame. This self-trimming design minimizes carbon buildup, reduces smoking, and creates a stable, consistent burn from first light to last.
The Testing
Before any candle reaches your home, we test it extensively. Every fragrance is evaluated in the vessel it ships in — frosted glass for the seasonal collection, olive glass for the Olive Collection. We test for burn time, tunneling, soot production, and scent throw. We monitor how the wax performs through multiple burn cycles, how the wick behaves over time, and how the glass heats during use.
We're looking for candles that burn evenly, release fragrance consistently, and perform safely in real-world conditions — not laboratory ideals.
What We Don't Use
Paraffin wax. Synthetic petroleum-based waxes. Any wax blends that release questionable compounds when burned. Fragrances containing phthalates, which have been linked to endocrine disruption and reproductive harm. Lead or zinc core wicks, which can release heavy metals into the air of your home.
We don't use ingredients because they're cheaper or easier to source. If a material doesn't meet our standards for safety and performance, it doesn't go into our candles.
Why This Matters
You're not just buying a candle. You're bringing something into your home that will burn for hours, releasing fragrance and combustion byproducts into the air you breathe. We take that seriously.
Ingredient quality and chemistry determine whether a candle gives you a headache or fills your room with scent. We've chosen every component — wax, fragrance, wick — to deliver powerful scent throw without the compounds that cause adverse reactions.
These are the standards we've built our work around.
