Dogwood
Dogwood week below Mabry Hill, and the hillside is white overnight. A week ago the trees were bare. Now the blossoms are everywhere—along the fences, over the lawns, layered against the new green of the woods behind them. The dogwood trail fills with slow drivers. Neighbors stand in their yards looking up. Inside the house, every open window brings in the cool weight of April: green wood, wet earth, the faint sweetness of the blooms themselves. The morning is loud with birds. Spring has decided.
